Difference between GMT 16760 and GMT 16750/16700/16710 hands

Post by springer »

One question that I get asked quite often is, "what is the difference between the GMT hand sets found on the post GMT 1675 model." While the hands from these later GMT 16750/16700 and GMT II 16760/16710 models are similar in appearance to the GMT 1675 models, the hands from these later models are not interchangeable with the GMT 1675. Additionally, while most of the 16750, 16700, 16760 and 16710 hands are interchangeable between each model, the sweep seconds hand found on the GMT II 16760 is exclusive to this model only. While similar in appearance to the other sweep seconds hands, the mounting post on the GMT II 16760 is significantly longer than the mounting post found on the other models as depicted in the photos below except for the GMT 1675 seconds hands which is longer than the 16760 seconds hand (see the GMT 1675 photo).

In summation, while the hour, minute and 24-hands between the 16750, 16700 16760 and 16710 models are interchangeable, as well as the sweep seconds hand being interchangeable between the 16750, 16700 and 16710, the GMT II 16760 sweep seconds hand is unique with its longer mounting post and intended for specific use with the GMT II 16760.

GMT and GMT II Movements:

GMT 1675: 1565 (marked 1560 on the bridge, replaced by caliber 1575 around 1965)
GMT 1675: 1575 (marked 1570 on the bridge - hacking feature added during early 1970s)
GMT 16750: 3075 (with quick-set date setting function)
GMT 16700: 3175 (replaced the GMT 16750 with quick-set date setting function)
GMT II 16760: 3085 (semi quick-set date setting function with independent hour hand)
GMT II 16710: 3185 (semi quick-set date setting function with independent hour hand)
GMT II 16710: 3186 (semi quick-set date setting function with independent hour hand. Found in the GMT II during
the last year or two of production. )
